These lores caught fire and spread across Maharashtra and Western India.Īs more and more people started visiting the region, locals made money, and they then built the temple that we today know as the Shirdi Sai baba temple in Shirdi. But the ones who were close to Sai banked on his popularity and spread stories of his miracles all over. Shirdi had nothing exceptional when Sai existed or passed away. So how in about a 100 years did we go from an ascetic to full-fledged god? He doesn't seem to have excelled in any of the shastras, just seems like a very normal ascetic. His teachings are generic, what anybody would tell you "Love All, Serve All", "All Gods Are One" and such.again there is nothing of substance here. And if he really was that big of a deal then the Raj would have heavily documented him. If you look at the history and origin of Sai Baba, you'll realize he's mostly claims and nothing of substance - "His followers claim that they saw him in their dreams, they claim that he levitated, his followers claim that he took Vishnu's avatar".Īll his miracles are claims, and all accounts of such claims are dodgy, despite the fact that he existed in 1900s under the Raj. He's a marketing scheme propped up partly by the government of Maharashtra, and the wealthy families of Ahmednagar and Shirdi who have their representation in the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust.
